Nothing new under the sun

16 Feb

And so the process continues year after year.  This was the state of affairs at Sept 11th, 2010.

We hear that the committee of five was appointed in late 2011, more than two years after Synod directed Pastor Semmler to work towards consensus.   We would expect patience to be sorely tested at the 2013 Synod.

Expect Pastor Semmler to stand again for the presidency.  That’s the word in the corridors of ALC. It seems that 13 years is just not long enough.  No-one could possibly do the job like him.

One man can’t take all the blame
but – who else is making themselves available?

The current state of affairs would not have occured under the leadership of the previous president, Pastor Steicke, who encouraged the debate and allowed the process. It was seen as legitimate and worth the risks of open debate.
Under Pastor Semmler the process has been severely restricted.
Under a wise leadership that facilitated genuine consensus making, an acceptance of women’s ministry could have occured without damage to the Church. Under the current endless resistance to change it is unlikely that the Church will survive without schism of some sort. We hold that one man has been consistently negative in the process.
These will be seen as dark days in the LCA.

We understand that Pastor John Henderson is making himself available for the position of President, however, Pastor Semmler allows no public statement from candidates. Under such circumstances the incumbent has all the cards.
